Holly Diener
Batman or Babar? Bewitched or Madeleine? Bagels or croissants?
How could I possibly choose?
They’re all in my DNA. Franco-American, raised in New York, Paris & Los Angeles - I have been immersed in both cultures my entire life. Growing up in an entertainment and media business family, Truffaut, Depardieu and Hallyday were as familiar to me as Spielberg, De Niro and Springsteen.
After graduating Tufts University with major/minor in French Literature and International Relations, I set off for Europe launching a global career in entertainment marketing.
Throughout the late-1990's/2000's, while holding senior executive and departmental head positions at EMI Music and Sony Music Entertainment, I had the opportunity to oversee international marketing campaigns for renowned multi-platinum recording artists - including Beyoncé, Queen, Paul McCartney, Radiohead, Blur, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd, among many others.
Operating between Anglo-Saxon and Gallic cultures was an essential component of my executive toolkit. I had always been fascinated by the similarities and differences between these distinctly separate worlds I regularly navigated. In my career, I was able to integrate my talents as a "cultural transposer" with my professional aspirations.
I first became interested in the world of subtitling and audiovisual translation in a later executive role at France 24, the international multilingual TV news channel. This was a revelation – I could synthesize my dual cultural expertise, senior media background and love of film/television, all at once.
Becoming a professional audiovisual translator was the logical next step for me - founding The Perfect Word in 2012.
Being totally bilingual and bicultural, I work in both French and English. Whether film or television, subtitling or screenplays, fiction or documentaries, each creative project is an opportunity to bridge the two cultures that I so love.
As the saying goes, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." And so I did !
